Originally we were arable and stock farmers. With the advent of BSE and poor crop prices we started to sell a few plants from the yard that we as keen gardeners had propogated for a bit of pocket money. Soon we realised that there was a potential for extra income for the farm as people came in requesting this plant or that. For a start we bought in quite a lot of ready grown plants from wholesale growers but over time we have got to the stage where we propogate and grow on a lot of plants ourselves.
We have exhibited at several shows including Harrogate Spring Show where we gained a Silver Medal. We have several Gold medals from county shows as well as The Sandringham Flower Show. We are gradualy veering towards doing plant fairs instead of big shows because we find that we get more of the really keen gardeners and plantspeople at these events, plus the fact we end up buying plants ourselves for future propagation (at least that is our excuse). Because of our commitments (especially in the Summer) some items for sale on the website may not be available as they may have been sold and we have not got round to taking them off the website. Likewise you may be looking for a plant that is not on the website but we may possibly have it so it is always worthwhile getting in touch with us to see if we have it or can get it for you. With all the plant fairs we attend Colin is always looking for that something a little different or rare.
Our small garden contains many of specimens of the plants that we sell including quite a few rarities that we are hoping to propogate once they are capable of producing propagating material. From being a garden full of Hydrangea macrophylla, white roses and privet it now is a well microclimated haven of plant goodies from all over the world.
Colin and his wife Karan live on site and run the nursery with the help of Michael, Karan's father. Lyn runs the office and helps in the nursery when required. Kim a good family friend comes in quite a lot to help.
Colin and Karan also go out and do talks and demonstrations to gardening groups, societies and organisations so if you are thinking of arranging an entertaining evening or afternoon for your local club or group don't hesitate to send us an email or ring us for details.
